China to boost grain storage capacity by 20 million tonnes

Between 2011 and 2015, China will build 20 million tonnes of grain storage capacity in major grain producing areas, western areas, and backup bases.

According to the nation's development plan for the grain sector, this is part of its effort to enhance the local grain distribution infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the country will construct and rebuild a batch of drying facilities, and establish low-temperature storages for product grain in 36 big and mid-sized cities.

The plan also says that China will open major channels to transport grain from the north to the south, improve major channels in the Yellow River, Huaihe River and Haihe River valleys, and in the meantime strengthen grain channel construction in western areas.
