New BSE case reported in Ireland
One new case of BSE was detected in Ireland this week, according to figures published today by the Department of Agriculture.
The disease was detected in a 10-year-old dairy cow on a farm in Co Meath.
A total of seven BSE cases have been detected in Ireland so far this year, compared to 28 in the same period of 2004.
The Department said the trend and age profile of the infected animals indicated that enhanced controls introduced in 1996 and 1997 were proving effective.
