Hormel's Austin plant to complete renovation by May
The Austin Post-Bulletin reports that a US$25 million renovation and expansion at Hormel Foods' plant at Austin, Minnesota, will be completed by May.
The project includes US$6.2 million livestock renovation to improve pig handling and animal welfare. Specific components will include controlled heating in the floors where pigs are held, a sprinkler system for cooling and improved overhead lightings.
Areas to be impacted will include the livestock yard, ham boning, and marinated meats.
