High yields up Canada's 2008-09 grains output

Canadian wheat, barley, corn and oats production for 2008-09 rose 17 percent to 55.3 million tonnes due to increased harvests and a low Canadian dollar is seen to help make Canadian grains more competitive, reports the US Department of Agriculture.

Wheat exports are seen to increase 10 percent from 2007-08 levels while barley exports are expected to decline by 35 percent due to reduced demand for feed barley.

On the other hand, Agriculture Canada, in its early outlook for crop year 2009-2010 sees a 9 percent decrease at 55.4 million tonnes from the 2008-2009 levels for wheat, barley, corn and oats production due to lower demand which may result to lower prices and higher supplies.
