Australian December beef output down 704 percent on-month at 162,366 tonnes
                                


Beef production in Australia, the second-biggest global exporter after Brazil, fell 7.4 percent on- month and 9.2 percent on -year in December to a seasonally adjusted 162,366 tonnes, the government's Bureau of Statistics reported Thursday (February 5).

 

The total number of cattle slaughtered in December, including calves, at 611,800 beasts, was down 7.6 percent on- month and down 8.0 percent on-year, it reported.

 

The bureau doesn't explain movements in the figures.

 

Australia exports two-thirds of its beef production to the major markets of Japan, the US, South Korea, Russia, Indonesia and Taiwan.

 

The level of exports is closely tied to production.
