Canada returns to Jordan's beef market
Canada has secured full market access for beef and cattle exports to Jordan, which was closed to Canada in 2003 due to bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).
Canada is working hard to open new markets such as Jordan to ensure more buyers for Canadian beef and cattle, said Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz.
International Trade Minister Stockwell Day said he welcomes Jordan's decision to open its doors to Canadian beef and cattle.
"This represents an important milestone for our beef and cattle industry and it is also a very important step towards expanding overall trade relations between our two countries," said Day.
The Canadian Beef Export Federation estimates the new market access in Jordan could increase the value of Canadian beef exports up to US$1 million.
Canada has recently expanded its pork trade with India and Hong Kong.
