Global warming stifling India's wheat yield
India's wheat production has stagnated in the past 10-15 years due to climate changes, said an Indian minister.
Scientists have told the Indian government that the mean and maximum temperatures in north India have increased 1 to 1.5 degrees Celsius in February, which is the crucial month for deciding how good the wheat will be, said Minister of State for Power Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday (Feb 4).
Ramesh noted that India already faces huge problems in areas such as water supply and agriculture, and that current indicators are forcing them to look at the potential harmful effects of climate change.
India should stop taking a defensive approach towards measures to tackle climate changes, said Ramesh.
