Philippines to start marine hatchery trainings

The Philippines announced it will start its first training course in marine fish hatchery practice which is funded by the Australia Centre for International Agriculture Research (ACIAR).

The programme was also supported by the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center's Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC/AQD).

The project will allow the transfer of marine fish production technologies developed in the Philippines and Indonesia to hatchery operators, The News today reported.

It will further help the country diversify production into marine fish species, such as grouper and better match market demands.

The training course will disseminate technologies developed by various institutes and projects in the Asia-Pacific region which focus on small-scale hatchery systems that can be used for multiple species, including barramundi, seabass and groupers.

Experts will also demonstrate how technology can be developed to suit medium and large-scale enterprises, as part of the programme.
