Australian December beef output up at 177,830 tonnes against November
Beef production in Australia, a major global exporter, rose 0.1 percent in December to a seasonally-adjusted 177,830 tonnes from 177,608 tonnes in November, to be 6.5 percent down on year.
Australia's Bureau of Statistics reported Monday that the total number of cattle slaughtered, excluding calves, in December was 665,200, up 1.6 percent on-month but down 7.0 percent on-year, it reported.
Australia exports about two-thirds of its beef production, with about 90 percent destined for Japan, the US and South Korea and with the overall level of exports closely tied to production.
