House of Smoke recalls meat and poultry products due to misbranding
House of Smoke Inc. recalled approximately 144,000 pounds of meat and poultry products, including bratwurst fully cooked sausage-type products and raw fresh products because of an undeclared allergen and misbranding, according to the USDA's Safety and Inspection Service.
The products were processed with an ingredient containing soy lecithin, a known allergen that is not declared on the label of the recalled products.
The USDA said that the problem was discovered during a food safety assessment. The firm mistakenly believed the releasing agent was a processing aid that did not need to be declared on the label.
The USDA and the company have not received reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a health care provider.
