Brazil January soy exports up on month to 599,600 tonnes
Brazil's soy exports rose slightly in January to 599,600 tonnes from the 528,800 tonnes shipped in December, the Foreign Trade Ministry said Friday.
The number is also higher than the 528,500 tonnes shipped in January 2007.
January is considered the interharvest period for Brazilian soy. Total revenue from soy exports was just US$250.7 million in January, making it one of the lowest sources of revenue among Brazil's top commodity exports. Soy export revenue trailed chicken and beef revenue for the month.
Brazil saw a dip in soymeal exports, reaching 670,600 tonnes in January compared to 919,300 in December and 801,500 in January 2007.
Soy oil exports were 160,600 tonnes, up from 71,600 in December and 39,800 in January 2007.
