Argentina 2006-07 corn sales at 14 million tonnes

As of February 1, Argentina had sold 14 million tonnes of 2006-07 corn for export, unchanged from a week earlier, the Agriculture Secretariat said Friday.

On Thursday, the Agriculture Secretariat opened the corn export registry, which had been closed since June. However, export commitments for the 2007-08 crop were not reported Friday.

By this time last year, Argentina had sold 8.6 million tonnes of 2005-06 corn.

Meanwhile, analysts estimate that the country will produce 20.5 million tonnes of corn this season, 8.9 percent below last year's output, the Buenos Aires Cereals Exchange said in its weekly crop report.
