Romania's grain exports earn over US$971 million within 10 months
For the period January-October 2011, Romania earned over EUR740 million (US$972 million) in grain exports, which was 16% more compared to same period the previous year.
The revenues were higher over January-October 2011, compared with the same period of 2010, due to better export world prices in 2011, although the amount of exported grain (wheat and meslin, barley, oats, corn and rice) both to the EU and non-EU countries was lower, namely 3.3 million tonnes in the first 10 months of 2011. In the first 10 months of 2010, a quantity of 4.04 million tonnes was exported.
According to Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) data, the biggest sums came from the exports of corn, some EUR351.6 million (US$463 million) for 1.33 million tonnes, and some EUR240.64 million (US$316.85 million) for 1.22 million tonnes of wheat and meslin).
Moreover, another EUR134.76 million (US$177.44 million) came from the export of barley for about 712 tonnes and EUR12.84 million (US$16.9 million) for 38,441 tonnes of rice.
