Cargill to invest US$14 million in upgrading soy plant
Cargill will spend US$14 million to upgrade its soy processing plant in north Wichita, the company announced on Tuesday (Feb 2).
The facility at 1401 N. Mosley employs 45 and stores, prepares, crushes and extracts oil from soy.
"This project will improve efficiencies and ensure reliability of Cargill's service to its animal feeding and soy oil customers for years to come," said Cary Humphries, general manager of the Cargill Grain & Oilseed Supply Chain facility. The company intends to have the improvements made in time for the 2010 fall soy harvest.
Cargill will be able to use tax-exempt Recovery Zone Facility Bonds from the state to help finance the project. The company has been working with the Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition on the upgrade.
The plant was originally built in 1940 and Cargill acquired it in 1961.
