Shortage of chicken following bird flu outbreak in Nepal
Market in Nepali capital Kathmandu is facing shortage of chicken after the detection of bird flu in Kakarvitta of Jhapa district in eastern Nepal.
It is said that shortage of chicken surfaced in the market after the poultry entrepreneurs halted to produce the chicks following the hazard of bird flu.
Kavre, which was exporting chicken to Kathmandu over 60 percent of its demand, has been facing the increasing shortage of chicken at present, said veterinary businessman of Banepa Bikash Sharma.
Meanwhile, following the shortage of chickens in the market, prices have gone down compared to the pervious price.
The government on January 16 confirmed the outbreak of bird flu virus in Jhapa district and issued a bird flu alert for the first time in the area.
