India sells 10,000 tonnes soymeal to Pakistan
Indian soybean processors have sold 10,000 tonnes of soymeal to buyers in Pakistan at around US$211/tonne, to be delivered at the land border in the northern state of Punjab, a senior industry official said Friday.
"Several deals have been clinched recently, and the delivery is scheduled for this month by rail," said the official.
He said Pakistan prefers to buy Indian soymeal because of the proximity through the land border and lower freight costs.
However, trade is much below potential due to a shortage of rail wagons.
Every month, depending on the availability of wagons, around 5-10 goods trains deliver over 1,750 tonnes of soymeal each at the border with Pakistan near Attari, a north Indian town in Punjab province.
