Moldova plans to buy 10,000 tonnes of wheat this year

Moldova plans to buy 10,000 tonnes of wheat for the state reserve in 2012, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry said.

This was stated by the minister of agriculture and food industry as he was speaking at the working meeting chaired by prime-minister Vladimir Filat where chairmen of the regional administration also took part.

The minister of agriculture has noted that about 30% of over 180 hectares of areas sown to winter crop can suffer from frost. As it has been said before, production of grain crops and leguminous plants made 2.5 million tonnes in Moldova in 2011, up 2.6 % up as compared with indicators of 2010. The yield of wheat grew by 6.6% from 744,000 to 793,000 tonnes. The ratio of bread grain to feed grain made up 50% to 505 in 2011.

Thus, last year it has been produced 400,000 tonnes of high-gluten bread-wheat, which is sufficient to ensure provision security of the state. Annual need of Moldova in the grain-wheat is 340,000 tonnes.

However in 2010, 240,000 tonnes of crop only were identified as the bread one, with the rest quantities being feed grain. To ensure the provision security of Moldova, the government banned the wheat export since February, which will abrogate in the beginning of May at the insistence of IMF.
