USDA accounts for broken shell eggs in December 2010

 

 

USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) accounted that 5% more shell eggs were broken during December 2010 than the same month in the previous year, according to its monthly Egg Products report.

 

Shell eggs broken totalled 177 million dozen during December 2010, up 5% from December a year ago, and 8% above the 163 million broken last month.

 

During calendar year 2010 through December, shell eggs broken totalled 2,072 million dozen, up 4% from the comparable period in 2009. To date, cumulative total edible product from eggs broken in 2010 was 2,685 million pounds, up 3% from 2009.

 

Both December 2009 and December 2010 contained 23 weekdays (including one holiday) and four Saturdays.
