Brazil's Sao Paulo live chicken prices up 27.88 percent on-year
The average daily live chicken price in Brazil's Sao Paulo state, was up 27.88 percent on-year, data of local agricultural news website AviSite showed on Thursday (Feb 1).
Sao Paulo is Brazil's wealthiest state.
The increase was chiefly attributed to the low prices seen in January 2006, when chickens were sold at prices 25.71 percent below that of January 2005 due to the oversupply situation caused by a dip in consumption due to bird flu in other parts of the world.
Chicken prices have started rising since the fourth and in the fifth weeks of January 2007.
The expectation of higher corn prices throughout the year is also pushing up chicken prices.
