Brazil's January soy exports down 24.8 percent from December
Brazilian soybean exports totalled 716,100 tonnes in January, compared with 952,800 tonnes exported in December, according to preliminary figures issued by the Foreign Trade Ministry on Wednesday.
However, January soy exports were more than double January 2005 export volume of 351,900 tonnes.
Daily soybean export volume also rose in January in comparison to January 2005, to 32,600 tonnes from last year's 16,800 tonnes. December daily volume was 43,300 tonnes.
Month over month soy export value also fell considerably to US$179 million in January, from the US$234 million registered in December. Soy export revenue is up from last January's figure of US$77 million, however, according to the government.
Soymeal exports continue their volatile trend, most of it downward. Meal exports for January were roughly 858,800 tonnes, compared to 1.018 million tonnes in December and 1.054 million tonnes in January 2005.
Soymeal export values were US$183 million in January, down from US$209 million in December and US$195 million in January 2005.
Soy oil exports also fell on the month to 129,600 tonnes in January from 193,000 tonnes in December, but more than the 120,900 tonnes registered in January 2005.
Revenues from soy oil were US$56.1 million in January compared to $87 million in December. Soy oil export revenue was relative flat when compared to the January 2005 total of US$59 million.
Brazil is the world's second largest soybean producer after the US.
