China's Xinjiang 2011 cotton crop up 16.9% on-year
In 2011, Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region gathered 2.9 million tonnes of cotton, 16.9% higher against last year, according to the region's statistics bureau on Monday (Jan 30).
Xinjiang is the country's biggest cotton production base, mainly supplying high-grade cotton.
The data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed that China's cotton output reached 6.6 million tonnes in 2011, up 10.7% on-year.
