Argentina beef exports expected to reach 700,000 tons

Argentina's beef exports are expected to reach 700,000 metric tons in 2005, the largest volume of the past 26 years. This figure will be a marked improvement from the 640,000 tons shipped in 2004.

In making this prediction, the U.S. agricultural attache for the country said the industry is rising on the back of profitability, opening of new markets, a good hygiene status, and strong world demand.

Meanwhile, domestic beef output is expected to drop somewhat, with consumption also expected to decline.
