China to boost grain storage by 20 million tonnes
China is planning to expand the local grain distribution infrastructure and will put up a grain storage with the capacity of 20 million tonnes in major grain producing areas, western areas, and backup bases in the 2011-2015 period.
Meanwhile, the country will construct and rebuild a batch of drying facilities, and establish low-temperature storages for product grain in 36 big and mid-sized cities.
The plan also says that China will open major channels to transport grain from the north to the south, improve major channels in the Yellow River, Huaihe River and Haihe River valleys, and in the meantime strengthen grain channel construction in western areas.
