Kazakhstan eyes 15-million-tonne grain export

Kazakhstan seeks to ship out 15 million tonnes of grain for 2012, including 8.7 million tonnes of grain for H1, the Kazakhstani Agriculture Ministry said Tuesday (Jan 31).

"For the full use of the republic's export potential [15 million tonnes], it is necessary to deliver abroad 10.2 million tonnes of grain, including flour and 8.7 million tonnes of grain, by July 1, 2102," the ministry noted.

According to Itar-Tass, in 2011, the country gathered a record high grain harvest of 26.9 million tonnes, which is 2.2 times more than in 2010, the ministry reaffirmed. A part of the harvest has already been delivered to the external markets.

According to the ministry, "the country exported about 4.1 million tonnes of grain, including flour, in the period from September through December 2011."
