China's Guangzhou contains live pig output within city use

Guangzhou city in China's southern Guangdong province announced a pork supply plan that will block the release of pig output to other provinces.

The Guangzhou Municipal Committee of Economy and Trade said all local live pig output should be used only for Guangzhou city and the live pigs purchased from other provinces would not be released on other markets.

This move is part of the city's plan to ensure adequate daily supply of live pig at no less than 9,000 heads, while the daily frozen pork supply should be at 400 tonnes.

The city is currently struggling on tight food supply as a result of traffic blocks and electricity supply failure after the continuous snowfall.

City officials said the pork supply remains stable as of now.
