New high for Polish poultry meat output
Polish poultry exports in the first ten months of 2006 was up 7.34 percent on-year, but is up 75 percent compared to 2004.
Chicken makes up around 70 percent of Polish poultry meat production.
Polish poultry meat production reached a record high of 1.08 million tonnes in 2006, up 6 percent on-year, according to official information quoted by German market analyst, ZMP.
Per capita consumption also reached a new record-high of 24.0kg and is likely to rise further.
Polish poultry meat exports also reached record levels in 2006 - total exports reached 205,000 tonnes, with Germany accounting for one-third of the figure. Other major markets include the UK and Belarus.
Polish poultry producers were struggling at the start of 2006 due to bird flu, which had stagnated sales and caused prices to plummet. Conditions began to improve from June, and the price of broilers in August were up 10 percent compared to the start of 2006 and up 14 percent on March levels.
