Cargill sets up office in Bulgaria
US agrigiant Cargill announced opening a grain and oilseed trading office in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The trading activities in Bulgaria would focus principally on exporting wheat, maize, sunflower seed, barley and rapeseed.
The company intends to grow its business in a region where a local presence is increasingly important, said Stoyan Stoyanov, general manager of the new Cargill office.
Its strong presence elsewhere in the Black Sea region would be complemented by the Bulgarian operations.
With a population of 7.5 million, Bulgaria in 2006 harvested 3.2 million tonnes of wheat, 1.4 million tonnes of maize and 515,000 tonnes of barley.
