US farm industry looking to reopen Cuba market

The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) along with other industry players has sent US President Obama a letter to consider reopening trade relations with Cuba, which would boost sales of US agricultural produce.

With Cuba so close to the US, it makes perfect sense to reopen trade and travel, said Bill Hoffman, chairman of the Joint Trade Action Team.

Building the US' ties with Cuba would also bring benefits to US agriculture, said Hoffman.

In addition to the NCGA, organisations that signed the letter include the American Farm Bureau, American Meat Institute, American Soybean Association, National Chicken Council, National Council of Farmers Cooperatives, National Milk Producers Federation, US Grains Council among many others.
