Beijing's seafood prices increase in wholesale markets

Out of 24 monitored seafood products in Beijing, at least 8 saw price increases last week, according to Beijing Baliqiao Agricultural Product Wholesale Market.

Last week, the average price of carp increased to RMB11.5/kilogramme (US$1.6) from RMB8/kg (US$1.1) during the first fifteen days of January.

Of all the seafood varieties, weever increased the most from RMB23/kg (US$3.2) to

RMB36/kg (US$5).

According to industry observers, the unpleasant weather conditions in Central and East China since the start of January affected transportation which in turn caused price hikes in Beijing's seafood markets.
