South Africa's yellow corn import hits 1 million tonnes
 

 

South Africa's yellow corn import has hit 1 million tonnes from April last year to last week South African Grain Information Service (SAGIS) said Tuesday (January 30, 2008)

 

South Africa imported 20,761 tonnes of yellow corn last week, up from 15,203 tonnes the week before.

 

Yellow corn exports for the week were slightly higher at 1,236 tonnes against 1,106 tonnes the previous week, bringing exports for the season to 56,418 tonnes.

 

White corn exports for the week at 9,349 tonnes were up from 8,374 tonnes and bring total exports to 213,503 tonnes. White corn imports rose to 272 tonnes from none the week before, bringing the total to 25,469 tonnes.

 

The country imported 46,490 tonnes of wheat last week, up sharply from 31,801 tonnes the week before, SAGIS said.

 

The delivery brings total imports since October last year to 559,738 tonnes.

 

Wheat exports for the week were up at 7,477 tonnes from 7,223 tonnes exported the week before, bringing total exports so far this season to 42,308 tonnes.
