Merial donates one million bird flu vaccine doses to Indonesia

Press release

One million doses of the vaccine, Gallimune H5N9, have been donated by Merial Asia to the Indonesian government to help combat avian influenza (AI).

As a global leader in avian biologicals, Merial plays an active role in the control of avian influenza in the region.

Dr H.A. Ong, Head of Avian, Other Asia, for Merial, said that the Gallimune H5N9 would be used for controlling the AI epidemic in Bali province.

The presentation ceremony was held in conjunction with the Tumpas Flu Burung ('Destroy Bird Flu') campaign organised by the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, local government in Bali and National Radio (RRI).

During the ceremony, Dr Lukas A.S., Marketing Director of PT Romindo, signed the official documentation, while Dr Ong made the donation to the Director of Animal Health Services, Indonesia, Dr H. Musny Suatmodjo.  Dr Musny then presented the donation to the official representative of the governor of Bali, Anak Agung Barata.

A workshop was held, with the Director-General of Health and the Director of Animal Health Services making presentations on controlling avian influenza.

This was followed by a 'live' question and answer session between participants and radio listeners, with an overwhelming response from the local participants and listeners.
