Cargill launches Proviox® Breeder additive for poultry

Proviox® Breeder, Cargill's plant-based antioxidant made for breeder birds, has been launched at this year's International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE).
The product is currently backed by fresh scientific data from Cargill's animal nutrition business, showing that the additive can improve broiler performances as well as helping to increase profits by up to US$1.00/broiler breeder and US$0.02/broiler.
To test the effects of Proviox® Breeder in diets, Cargill conducted 10 trials at its Global Animal Nutrition Innovation Center in Velddriel, the Netherlands.
Results revealed that Proviox® Breeder can boost growth while reducing the number of broken eggs as those are made 7% - 9% stronger. Chicks have gained 2% - 4% in weight based on trial findings. Also, broilers are reported to be 70-110 grams heavier at 35 days.
Another benefit include better chick hatchability which raises successful hatches by 1.8%, or two to three extra chicks/breeder.
"Effective early nutrition is critical in overall poultry performance. Weight at hatch as well as growth performance during the first weeks of a chick's life impacts the chicken's overall growth performance," says Maxime Hilbert, Cargill's global additives technology leader.
"Ultimately, by maximising breeder performance using Proviox® Breeder, customers can make a significant positive impact on their profits. For instance, a customer with a flock of 100,000 birds could make an extra US$100,000 each year."
The Proviox® trials are part of a larger Cargill project aimed at improving poultry performance through better breeder nutrition.
At the Global Animal Nutrition Innovation Center, Cargill has the capability to test breeder diets, hatch eggs on site and rear broilers to market age all in one facility.
"We believe this breeder research programme provides us deep insights that are critical to improving all elements of breeder diets including premixes, specialty additives, and complete feeds, " said Roland Koedijk, Cargill's global poultry technology leader.
Marketed under Cargill's Provimi PROMOTE® brand of additives, Proviox® Breeder is currently undergoing registration processes in several countries and is expected to be available to poultry customers by 2016.
