Ukraine imports Chinese and Norwegian pork

Chinese pork found its way into Ukraine, while Norwegian pork was allowed back into the Ukrainian market after a few months of absence.

Ukraine imported for the first time 400 tonnes of frozen Chinese pork in December 2009. The trade operation was conducted by a Hungarian supplier.

The average price of imported pork half-carcasses totalled UAH12.45 (US$1.56) per kg.

Ukraine authorities have permitted imports of pork from Norway again. The imports were stopped in October following reports about AH1N1 in pig farms in Norway. The ban is removed after the Ukraine veterinary committee stated there is no risk of transmission from animal products to people, referring to declarations by global animal health organisation OIE.
