China to move 500,000 tonnes of wheat to north-west regions to meet demand

China will transfer 500,000 tonnes of wheat from Henan province to the northwestern region to guarantee wheat supply in the markets there, the State Grain Administration said Monday (January 29, 2008).

Shaanxi province, Gansu province and Qinghai province will get 120,000 tonnes, 300,000 tonnes and 30,000 tonnes, respectively, the administration said in a statement published on its Web site.

Ningxia Huizu Autonomous Region will receive 50,000 tonnes, it said.

The wheat transferred was bought by the government under the minimum purchase price programme last year.
