FSIS announces public meeting for poultry industry

According to the FSIS, the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI) will soon hold public meetings from February 5 to 6.

The meeting will address the planned public health-based slaughter inspection system for young chickens and how a similar approach could be used for inspection in processing and other slaughter establishments.

It is FSIS' intention to update the inspection system for young chicken slaughter establishments. FSIS believes that the planned inspection system will better protect public health because it will be better adapted to methods used in slaughter plants. It also believes that the considered performance standards will decrease the amount of microbial contamination occurring at the end of the poultry slaughter process.

All committee and subcommittee meetings will be held at the Key Bridge Marriott, 1401 Lee Highway, Arlington, Va, from 8.45am to 5.15pm.
