China's 2003 Soymeal Exports Down 24%; Imports Up 159%
China's Soymeal Exports
According to China Customs Authority, a total of 52,741 metric tons of soymeal were exported from the country in December 2003, down by 8% compared to the same period of 2002.
Between January and December 2003, China's soymeal exports totalled 770,616 tons, showing a year-on-year decrease of 24%. China's soymeal was mainly exported to the following countries:
- Japan at 523,136 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 14%;
- South Korea at 99,029 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 27%;
- North Korea at 12,685 tons, a year-on-year increase of 7%;
- Hong Kong at 7,985 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 6%.
China's Soymeal Imports
Based on the official figures, China imported a total of 1,182 tons of soymeal in December 2003, registering a sharp rise of 2854% compared to the same period of 2002.
Between January and December 2003, China's soymeal imports amounted to 1,788 tons, up by 159% compared to the same period of 2002. Of the imported amount, 1,329 tons were from India, and 240 tons from Taiwan.
