China's 2003 Corn Exports Up 40% to 16.39 Million MT

According to China Customs Authority, China exported a total of 3,280,392 metric tons of corn in December 2003, registering a year-on-year increase of 72%.

Between January and December 2003, China's total corn exports amounted to 16,389,452 tons, a year-on-year rise of 40%.

Major Chinese corn importing countries and annual imported volume are as follows:

• South Korea at 8,036,893 tons, a year-on-year increase of 31%;
  
  
• Malaysia at 2,464,155 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1%;
  
  
• Indonesia at 1,605,320 tons, a year-on-year increase of 19%;
  
  
• Iran at 1,600,999 tons, a year-on-year increase of 3065%;
  
  
•  Japan at 1,309,806 tons, a year-on-year increase of 314%;
  
  
• Sri Lanka at 118,639 tons, a year-on-year increase of 41%.
