Brazil's soy crop to reach record 70.3 million tonnes

Brazil's soy crop, which is starting early harvest, is projected to reach its highest at 70.3 million tonnes in 2010/11, up from the 68.4 million tonnes forecast in December, analysts said on Thursday (Jan 27).

The forecast from analysts of Agroconsult comes ahead of its annual crop tour that will start on January 31 and run through March 27.

The analysts added that the planted area rose to a record of more than 24 million hectares and yields would also rise from the previous forecast in December but could give no comparative details at this time.

Most of Brazil's soy belt has been getting ample rainfall so far this season, despite the late start to planting in the centre-west due to the delayed arrival of spring rains there.
