Philippine feedmeal to grow on anticipated production boost

The Philippine feedmeal output is projected to grow as industry players anticipate strong hog production this year.

The Agriculture department forecasts the hog sector to grow by 3 percent to 4 percent in 2008, as the industry taps on foreign export markets such as Singapore.

Norman Ramos, president of the Philippine Association of Feedmillers, said that if the hog sector grows by 3 to 4 percent, the feedmeal sector will also grow at the same rate, since the bulk of the demand for feed is accounted for by the hog sector.

Corn production is also estimated to grow by 9 percent in 2008.
