Brunei exports BN$1 Million Frozen Shrimp Products
Brunei has exported about 80 metric tones of frozen shrimp products valued at approximately BN$1 million to the United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia in 2004.
Brunei's Fisheries Department recorded this export value last year. It also said that the fishery industry's potential is estimated to be worth BN$200 million annually on a sustainable basis.
About BN$17 million from this comes from the seafood processing industry.
Seafood processing includes the production frozen shrimps, crackers and value-added products such as fish balls and fish cakes.
This industry has a very wide potential especially in the production of frozen shrimps for the export market.
Currently, the Fisheries Department is awaiting completion of the second phase of its Fish Storage and Distribution Centre to serve the needs of the country's fishery sector.
