Peru's Jan-Nov fishmeal export down 43.2% on-year
Between January and November 2013, Peru has exported 730,500 tonnes of fishmeal, a drop of 43.2% compared to the 1,285,500 tonnes shipped in the same period in 2013.
According to the November Monthly Statistical Bulletin prepared by the Ministry of Production (Produce), foreign sales of fishmeal through November 2013 generated US$1,197 million in income, 29.3% less than in 2012, when US$1,693 million were obtained.
China remained the main market for Peruvian fishmeal, with purchases of 436,482 tonnes. Further back were Germany with 90,262 tonnes, Chile with 49,180 tonnes, and Japan with 44,754 tonnes.
The fishmeal price at international level reflected a decrease from last year such as in November 2012 when this product was paid US$1,896/tonne (Hamburg), while in the same month of 2013, the price has dropped to US$1,443/tonne.
Denmark was the main market for Peruvian fish oil, with the purchase of 35,277.6 tonnes. Belgium was in second place with 19,761.5 tonnes, and Chile in third position with 12,928.6 tonnes.
