Thailand's chicken export to Japan may reach 500,000 tonnes this year
Buoyed by Japan's decision to lift its ban on Thai chicken late last year, the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) is confident that Thailand's export of frozen chicken to Japan will top 500,000 tonnes this year.
After the Japan-Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement (JTEPA) meeting, Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, Director General of the DITP, revealed that both countries expected to see a 5% increase in their two-way trade, especially in textile and poultry industries.
She said the Japanese side was targeting to import 500,000 tonnes of chicken products from Thailand, 300,000 tonnes of which would be fresh frozen chicken and the rest processed chicken; valued at THB70-80 billion (US$2.1-2.4 billion) in total.
