South American broiler meat production rises for 2011

 

 

An estimated rise by 81% has been reported for South America's total broiler meat production from 2001 to 2011, according to the USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS). 

 

Brazil's broiler meat production for the last decade has increased by 97%. The increase is seen in the country's share of production - 70% in 2001 to 77% in 2011. As for Argentina, the second largest producer, a 95% increase has been noted within the same time frame. Broiler meat production in the country comprises 10% of South American production last year.

 

All in all, broiler meat consumption in South America has increased by 67% since 2001. Consumption in Brazil and Argentina increased by 81% and 71% respectively.

 

According to estimates, South American imports dropped by 611% since 2001. The broiler meat imports in Brazil, from 2001-2011, have been minimal, while Argentina witnessed a 58% decline.

 

Total accumulated broiler meat exports from the US to South America rose by 55% for ten years. Since 2001, an increase of 187% in South America's exports has been estimated. While Brazil's share of broiler meat exports dropped from 97% in 2001 to 91% in 2011, Argentina's increased from 1% to 6% within the same period.
