Ukraine's pig population up 4.2% in December

 

 

In December, the pig population in Ukraine shrank by 4.2% or 312,200 heads against November, to 7.13 million heads as of January 1.

 

According to the State Statistics Committee, pig population in private farms fell by 6.2% or 253,100 heads to 3,834,900 heads, while population in specialised farms fell by 1.8% or 59,100 heads to 3,300,500 heads as compared to November.

 

The pig population rose by 9.3% or 609,400 heads against January 1, 2009.

 

Specifically, pig population grew by 20.9% or 569,600 heads in specialised farms, and by 1% or 39,800 heads in private farms.

 

Earlier reports stated that in November the pig population went down by 0.7% or 49,600 heads compared with October, to 7,447,600 heads as of December 1.
