Ukraine poultry and pig populations decline in December

 


In December 2009, Ukraine's poultry flock and pig herd decreased by 5.4% to 190.5 million heads and by 6.5% to 4.9 million heads, respectively, from the previous month. 


In private farms, the poultry population declined by 11.4% or 11.653 million heads, while poultry population in specialised farms increased by 0.7% or 855,000 heads.


In comparison with January 1, 2009, poultry population rose by 7.3% or 13 million heads.


In specialised farms, the poultry population rose by 13.4% or 11.744 million heads, and in private farms poultry population rose by 1.4% or 1.244 million heads.


Cattle population shrank by 8.8% or 317,600 heads at private farms, and by 1.4% or 23,300 heads at specialised farms.


In December, cow population decreased by 1.7% or 47,900 heads, and totalled 2.7 million heads as of January 1, 2010.


Cattle population fell by 3.2% or by 161,400 heads, compared to January 1, 2009.
