Harvey Beef's closure may impact Australian beef industry
Harvey Beef's temporary shutdown will have a significant impact on the Australian beef industry, according to an analyst.
Analyst and sales agent Neil Foale says the closure will put extra pressure on other processors as it happened at a period of time where "there is still a lot of cattle out there".
The grain fed cattle, he said, has been for 70-90 days and should start going to the markets. And without Harvey Beef the other abattoirs probably won't be able to cope, said Foale.
The state's largest processor has announced it is suspending operations until February 2 as it tries to sell a backlog of meat.
