Thailand, Myanmar border communities to meet about bird flu prevention

On Jan 27, local officials and international donors in Thailand's northwestern province of Takl will meet with health workers from migrant communities living on the Thai-Myanmar border to discuss emergency plans in case of a outbreak of bird flu.

The meeting is expected to draw more than 70 delegates from international organizations, UN agencies, the provincial government, non-governmental organizations and embassies. It is co-organised by the provincial public health office, the International Organisation for Migration, the United Nations' Children Fund and the World Health Organisation.

Discussing the various key elements of a plan to fight bird flu, the meeting aims to protect refugees and migrants living in camps and communities in close range of their livestock in the Thai-Myanmar border zone.
