Iceland's Laxar fiskeldib to open salmon factory
A salmon farming station with a production capacity of 4,000 tonnes by breeding salmon in marine pens in Fáskrúðsfjörður, east Iceland is to be opened by Iceland aquaculture company Laxar fiskeldi.
The company has already applied for a license at the Icelandic National Planning Agency to produce 6,000 tonnes of salmon in a breeding station in the neighbouring Reyðarfjörður, Morgunblaðið reports.
The district council of the Fjarðabyggð municipality has referred the plans in Fáskrúðsfjörður to the region's employment, culture, marine control and urban planning committees.
