Homeopathics treatment to aid piglets with diarrhoea

A research by Wageningen University and Research Centre has shown that homeopathic treatment can prevent diarrhoea problems in newborn piglets.

Scientists looked for possibilities to use homeopathics as alternatives to antibiotics. On a conventional farm, 52 sows in the last month of gestation were treated with either the homeopathic treatment Coli 30K or a placebo.

Piglets from sows that received the homeopathic treatment proved to have significantly less diarrhoea than piglets from a test group. In addition, the diarrhoea was less serious, shorter in time and there were lesser cross-infections.

The treatment proved to work best in piglets from first-parity sows.
