Brazil to expand global egg market access

In order to further stimulate Brazil's egg exports, the Brazilian Poultry Exporters Association (Abef) is planning action in both domestic and foreign markets.

Abef has presented its plans to companies in the industry that are considering becoming affiliated with the organisation. The plans include efforts to develop the technical area, improving sanitation, quality, animal breeding and product certification.

Meetings with the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and technical meetings are also part of the strategy.

Abef is renewing its sectorial project with the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex) in order to obtain more funds and to be able to promote Brazilian eggs at international events.

Brazil exported 37,000 tonnes of eggs in 2009, up from 14,000 tonnes in 2005.

The world's main egg importing markets are China, Hong Kong, Singapore and the EU. Abef plans to carry out intelligence work in order to enter and develop these markets. The association also plans to promote Brazil's eggs under the Brazilian Egg brand.
